Down the Rabbit Hole
Wall to Wall has been the ultimate annual street art festival in Australia for many years, and brings the community of Benalla together, and artists from around the globe. The Victorian regional town is now one of the greatest street art towns globally.
For the 2019 festival Robyn was given the wall in the carpark below the Benalla Library, and decided to paint with a strong connection to the library and it’s collection of books above. Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” (“Alice in Wonderland”) seemed the perfect theme to appeal to all ages – from the smallest children to adults alike.
With the Library above, Robyn painted the rabbithole on the wall extending onto the roof of the carpark, to signify Alice falling through the library floor into the subterranean fantasy world.
For her model, Robyn used Bridget (BJ) who she has painted on other occasions, and designed a costume which was handmade for her photoshoot. Bridget visited the mural during the festival in her costume, to the delight of festival goers.
Robyn’s “Down the Rabbit Hole” mural features in the Benalla Street Art Self Guided Walk that introduces six iconic murals around the town, using the Storytowns app – visit the www.visit.victoria.com website for details.
