Lametta
“Lametta” features queer burlesque performer and costume designer/seamstress to the glitterati of the burlesque, drag, cabaret and performer scene, Ruby Slippers. Ruby’s performances range from seductive and sensual to the zany, comical and spectacular. One of her costumes is like a cross between a lion’s mane and fire that rages from her body – lametta – which is multi-coloured tinsel. Robyn captures Ruby’s playful side away from the stage, where she teases and plays with the lametta costume, growling or perhaps purring, like the lion. It’s a surreal contrast to the highly choreographed and dynamic performance she delivers with it.
This piece was created for the annual “Antipodes” show at Beinart Gallery in Brunswick, a collection of works by figurative artists from Australia.
