Bam Bam
“Bam Bam” is Amy Broomhall, performing artist extraordinaire. Whether it’s burlesque, singing, dancing, circus acts, swallowing swords in a circus sideshow or posing as a life model for artists, Bam Bam enthrals and fascinates. A force to be reckoned with.
Robyn captured Bam Bam’s confidence and feminine energy in this modern tribute to the classic reclining nude. In this case, the subject is fully in charge, challenging us with a direct gaze and in full control of the interaction. There’s no helpless female for the male gaze. And yet, she has a tenderness and feminine vulnerability that makes her alluring.
Painted on an American Oak panel, with rich golden tones and strong wood grain patterns, Robyn has allowed the timber features to show through the paint. This piece featured in Robyn’s first solo show, “Persona”. This body of work sought to examine our most captivating performers once they step off the stage, when the lights are off, the costumes and makeup removed, and when these public figures finally relax into their more vulnerable natural state.
