Jun Inoue, Artist
“Jun Inoue, Artist” is a tribute to one of Robyn’s favourite artists from Kanagawa, Japan.
Inoue, an internationally renowned artist, captures the authentic spirit of traditional Japanese culture, philosophy, aesthetic and craftsmanship in his works; from canvas to walls, from skate decks and fashion to industrial objects. His paintings are inspired by opposing cultural roots, both ancient and modern – shodo (calligraphy), Zen and rakugaki (Japanese graffiti).
Using a palette of primarily black and red inks and paint, aerosol cans and ink pens, and applied with brooms, mops, brushes and rollers, Inoue is a master of live painting performances where he captivates his audiences with a combination of dance (to the beat of live hip hop tracks) and dynamic, spontaneous painting. Robyn has been to a number of his exhibitions and visually recorded a live performances in Melbourne, Australia. It’s from those images that she created this portrait.
This piece was created for the “A Portrait of a Painter” exhibition held at Off The Kerb Gallery in Collingwood.
